About me

My name is Soany Pougala, I was born in 2002. I am a Cameroonian political student studying at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and at Peking University, China.

This blog is a collection of essays and notes on various topics ranging from political economy, to international security, to cultural and historical notes.

The world we live in is changing before our very eyes. The current status quo, which allowed a swarm of nations to prosper, develop, and increase their wealth while the rest of the world suffered from poverty, war, and financial exploitation, has been challenged. Who are the actors pushing forward this change, who are the actors resisting it, and what are the implications of this struggle – those are all questions we must ask ourselves if we desire to understand the world we live in today.

However, the complexity of the world, and the speed at which modern information spreads, creates opportunities for misunderstandings, misinformation and increased ignorance. This not only threatens our understanding of the world, but it also distorts the role we are meant to play shaping it.

For Africans, and for all peoples of the Global South, the stakes of the 21st century are really high. The labor division between countries created systemic winners and systemic losers : we have been designated to be the losers. For us to create a healthier world and a more just international system, it is essential that we inform ourselves on the causes of modern injustice that shape our societies, and on what we can do to oppose them. Call out injustice when we see it, and seek alternatives. This, I believe, is our responsibility, towards ourselves, our predecessors, and those that will come after us.

Writing allows me to bring my own small contribution to something which I hold dear, that is, the advent of a brighter future, not just for my country or even my continent, but for the whole of humankind.
